A Gentle Reminder…

A Gentle Reminder…

Does satan know scripture better than me?

When he was tempting Jesus, the very first temptation, Jesus used the scripture as his defense. Second time, same thing. The last time, this time satan used scripture himself against Jesus. But it was twisted and manipulating and taken out of context. If we’re not careful we can do the same thing. Some scripture by taking it out of context might even disregard sinful behavior. Do I know God’s Word thoroughly in order to prevent the manipulation of the flesh and/or the enemy? Do I know God’s Word thoroughly to be able to discern when someone uses the Word to their advantage in deviating the scripture so they can fulfill the desires of the sinful human nature?

I feel like as a nation, we are seeing a lot of this right now. And rightfully so, for Peter brings up Paul’s letters and speaks on this very thing regarding the last days- “He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.” (2 Peter 3:16,17)

Just a few verses up Peter reminds us that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” (2 Peter 3:3,4)

“the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. (2 Peter 3:11,12)

Just feel like I need to throw this reminder out there for us today that satan even knows scripture, but he twisted it and manipulated it. In these last days, more than ever, we must know more and more of God’s Word and hide it in our hearts and pray for discernment so we will be wise enough and strong enough to see distortion and the perversion of the scripture that God warns will come. (and is here!)

Have a blessed day!
